While products are in transit, the transportation tools may subject them to a variety of different vibration environments (such as sea, air or truck freight). Companies have, in recent years, increasingly turned towards collective packaging or pallets to reduce transportation costs. As a result, the laboratory has received an increasing number of commissions for oversized/ heavy loading vibration testing. To meet the demands of new innovative requirements, communications server rooms are also now running all kinds of different products together on their racks (e.g. servers and network communications devices). As product or environmental vibrations may interfere with product performance or make it malfunction, the vibration resistance of large rack devices is now also drawing more attention.

The cross-straits demand for automobile electronic products has climbed in the past two years. As automobile electronics spend almost all of their product lifecycle in vibrating environments, their requirement for vibration resistance is far higher than consumer electronics. Europe mostly uses the ISO-16750 standard for testing, while the U.S. refers to the SAE J1211 or vendor specifications as the testing standard. All are mainly based around low frequency/long stroke or high frequency/high acceleration testing conditions.

To meet the different types of product vibration conditions on the market, ISTgroup drew on the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials), ISTA (International Safe Transit Association) and various national automobile vibration specifications to install low frequency/long stroke and high frequency/high-G energy vibration systems at the ISTgroup head office in Taiwan and the Kunshan laboratory in China. These were commissioned in mid-July and ISTgroup invites all new and existing customers to take advantage of this service.
